Question:  How do you solve the problem of massive, industrial egg farming and its grossly inhumane practices?

Answer:  Create a fake egg in a laboratory and sell it to all of the major food companies to replace the use of real eggs in their products.  Well, that is at least one solution being offer up by Josh Tetrick, head the new start-up Hampton Creek Foods company.  This small business is back with $2 million dollars of venture capital to create an all plant-based synthetic egg, which they call, Beyond Eggs.  But is this “unegg” all its cracked up to be?

In today’s episode, I discuss Hampton Creek Foods, and its faux egg plans to squeeze real eggs right out of the food production marketplace.  We will also critically consider the company’s claim to be a more sustainable option than real eggs.  We will compare

their claims with some real life examples of humanely produced eggs having a relevant and practical space in the business world.

On a side note, I went in search of the Hampton Creek Foods company while I was in San Francisco and found that the business did not have any signage whatsoever.  The only thing that gave away that this was, indeed, the right door to the business that I was seeking out, was the small drawing of an egg above the address number.  I didn’t try to enter the business to get more information from the source, as I had intended, because it seemed pretty clear that the business is not really set up for people to just drop by.
